If you have a garage door that’s acting up instead of opening up – or if you’re building a new home or renovating an old one and want knock-out garage doors that make a statement – Hung Right Doors is the place to call. They supply, install, and repair garage doors and openers in Olympia, Aberdeen, and throughout Southwest Washington.
High school pals Rusty Ruiz and Allen Bryson started the company 13 years ago.
Rusty grew up living with his mother in Hoquiam, but worked summers and every school break at his father’s garage door company in California. “Since I was born, my dad’s been doing garage doors,” Rusty says.
After graduating from high school, Rusty moved to California and worked full- time with his dad for seven years.
Serving in the Navy and stationed in San Diego at the time, Allen came down and hung out with Rusty on the weekends. “He’d go to work with me on Fridays,” Rusty remembers.
Eventually Rusty was ready to strike out on his own and the two friends decided to start a door company in Aberdeen.
“Allen was a partner from the beginning,” says Rusty, “but he was in the Navy the first year and a half; he’d work on his leaves and vacations.”
The business began in Aberdeen, where Rusty still lives, and where the company still has a warehouse in nearby Hoquiam.
“We were working in Elma, Shelton, McCleary, all over,” says Rusty. “Every day we were doing some work up here, so we thought, ‘Well, we’re up there anyway and there are more people.”
With a combined 78 years of experience in the overhead garage door industry, the Hung Right Doors team can boast to being an indisputable leader in garage doors throughout Thurston, Grays Harbor, and Lewis Counties.
Hung Right Doors does it all, from residential to commercial to industrial. “Basically, anything to do with garage doors or openers,” Rusty says. They do garage door repair and installation, as well as offer garage door accessories. They offer same-day service and free estimates.
Hung Right Doors works with garage doors of all kinds, from a custom wood door on a new home to the giant door in a business’s shipping and receiving area.
“We have one full-time guy dedicated to service,” Rusty continues, “and if somebody needs service that day, we get it done.”
If a garage door is broken to the point it cannot be repaired, Hung Right Doors can replace it.
“We have everything from traditional, non-insulated, raised-panel doors for entry-level customers all the way up to totally custom, handmade wood doors that are insulated,” Rusty says.
They even carry all-aluminum glass doors, insulated with an R-value of 6 up to 17.2. Why an insulated garage door? “Most garages now hold the hot water tank and furnace,” Rusty explains. “An insulated garage door can help with the efficiency of the entire house.”
Rusty and Allen have seen big changes in the garage door industry over the years. “Fifteen years ago, it was basically: ‘Do you need it in white or almond?’” Rusty says with a laugh. The range of options now – design and materials – is staggering.
“We stock some stuff for emergencies, but we probably don’t ever order the exact same door twice,” he says. “Very few are cookie-cutter; most of the doors come in as special orders.”
Hung Right Doors can get any part from any manufacturer. “If we go to do a repair and they need any brand of part, we can get it,” Rusty says. “But we sell the best, and that’s Clopay.”
In fact, Hung Right Doors is one of only 370 authorized Clopay dealers worldwide – and the only authorized dealer in Southwest Washington.
Clopay is North America’s largest manufacturer of residential garage doors and a major supplier of commercial overhead garage doors. It’s also the only garage door manufacturer with the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval, a distinction it’s proudly held since 1996.
Clopay’s are the only garage doors made with 100 percent American steel, which is 75 percent or more recycled.
“There are other good brands out there,” says Rusty, “but Clopay is definitely one of the best.”
Rusty feels so strongly about Clopay’s products that he’s on the Clopay Dealer Advisory Board, which helps guide the company on research and product development.
For garage door openers, Hung Right Doors uses Liftmaster, the biggest manufacturer or garage door openers in the world.
“A lot of people think we’re a chain, because of our branding,” says Rusty. With six fluorescent green pickup trucks emblazoned with the Hung Right Doors logo tooling around town, people definitely take notice.
But in fact, Hung Right Doors is one of the only locally owned and operated garage door companies in the area, and the Hung Right Doors team members are all from or currently live in Pe Ell, Shelton, Aberdeen, Lacey, and Olympia. These are local folks who take pride in working in their communities.
“We really strive for the best customer service,” says Rusty. “It’s one of our top priorities. Because if your garage door opener breaks and we give you good service, if the door breaks and you want to replace it, we want you to call us.”
