Last time we talked about how to clean your garage out for spring. Today, we are talking about how to get your garage ready for the warm months! I have two kids who tend to get bored with their toys or go through seasons of play where they just aren’t as interested in their toys. When this happens I usually rotate the toys out and put other toys of theirs in. This makes space for the other toys that they already own and helps them to feel like they just got a bunch of new toys. Now, you may be wondering why I’m telling you this and why you should care. Well, it relates to your garage today because we need our garages to be rotated out every few months too! We are different in that we don’t necessarily get bored of the things in out garage, but the seasons change and we need different things at the forefront of our garage space.
This upcoming season is spring! That means many of us are breaking out our yard tools and gardening supplies. For me, most of these things have been put away in their bins for the last few months. But now I need my seeds, fertilizer, and shears again.
Make sure to gather up all the winter items that you may not need to be out any more. This usually includes salt for pavement, snow shovels, winter recreation equipment etc. Get some bins out and pack all that winter stuff away. Make sure to wipe down your shovels, and snow scrapers, and do any necessary end-of-year maintenance on your snow recreational equipment. Pack these away and say Hasta La vista baby! I love my winter stuff. It’s all very useful for making winter survivable, but at the end of winter, I am so excited to get rid of the stuff that reminds me of long, cold, and wet days and hello to gardening things that make me think of flowers and birds singing!
Set up your garage space so that It works for you. I have a workbench that runs almost the entire depth of one side of my garage. This is where I set up my potting equipment and my smaller garden tools. I have my gloves, hand tools, pots, seeds, and potting soil. The larger equipment gets put out by the door so that It is easily accessible and I don’t have to put it anywhere far to the other side of the door, or up in a complicated way. My yard is a jungle in the spring so after a few hours of hard work I’m more excited to go drink an ice-cold drink than I am to think too hard about putting away my stuff.
Behind the vehicles go the sporting equipment and things like wheeled toys, and the kayak, Most of this stuff Is going to be transported from my house, and I don’t want to get bikes down from hooks on the ceiling or wrestle through a bunch of shelves to get the soccer or volleyball stuff. So I make sure that this all goes behind the cars for easy access.
All it takes is a day of work to make the rest of the season go so much smoother. Taking an afternoon to put away all your winter things to make room for all the fun things that spring brings will make the next few months so much easier for you to just grab and go! It also makes me feel so excited and inspired for all the things that my family and I will do in the next few months. Taking out all this equipment brings to mind memories of the year before, while getting me so excited for what’s to come.
